Many things impact you listening experience: speaker and headphone components, internal electronics, cabling, power, noise, and even the room you’re in.

Speakers come in different shapes and sizes: 2-way, 3-way, subwoofers, active, passive and more.

Speaker components (drivers) have three categories: a woofer, midrange, and tweeter.

Studio monitors are either active or passive. The difference: active speakers have an integral amplifier while passive speakers need an external power amp.

Headphones and in-ear monitors (IEMs) are useful tools for monitoring while you work on tracking, mixing, or doing overdubs.

A monitor controller is a piece of gear that allows engineers to design the listening experience.
